World Series Ads Bring Some Spice to MLB

As I write this post, it's Boston Red Sox 10 and Colorado Rockies 1 in the 5th inning of the 2007 World Series.  Let's hope the series gets a little more exciting in Game 2, at least for the sake of the advertisers that invested a lot of money into their World Series promotions.  With the World Series games available online this year, I decided to take a look at some of the ads on MLB.com (or worldseries.com - it's the same web page) to see what looked interesting.

The first one to catch my attention was the above banner ad for Taco Bell because the promotion is very cool.  When you click on the banner ad, you're taken to a special web page for the Taco Bell promotion.  The promotion tagline says:

90 ft. to free tacos for America.  Steal a base.  Steal a taco.

I love it!  Here's how the Taco Bell promotion works according to the promotion web page:

If any player steals a base in the 2007 MLB World Series, Taco Bell is going to give one free Crunchy Seasoned Beef Taco to every person in America.

Viewers are used to seeing primarily beer and car commercials during the World Series, so it's nice to have a different kind of promotion to catch our interest, particularly when the games are boring - like the one I'm watching right now.  It's Boston 13, Colorado 1 in the 5th now, and it's time to turn the channel.

Come on Boston or Colorado.  Someone just steal a base so Americans can get their free tacos!
