I have referred to Drew's Marketing Minute by Drew McLellan of McLellan Marketing Group more than once on MarketingBlurb. Drew is one of my favorite bloggers. He and I share many of the same views on marketing, and I think he has a unique way of relating marketing concepts to real world applications.![]()
I was very happy when Drew asked me to be a guest blogger at Drew's Marketing Minute, and today, my post called Is Demographic Segmentation Dead? is live on Drew's blog. In my post, I discuss one of the key shifts marketers need to make in creating strategies for Web 2.0 marketing campaigns - moving away from demographic segmentation and targeting and instead focusing on behavioral segmentation and marketing.
Online, people can remain as anonymous as they want in terms of sharing demographic information, but their behaviors are not as easy to hide. As marketers, we need to release our tight grip and reliance on demographics and focus more closely on behaviors when we segment our online customer bases and target those segments with appropriate offers.
Please check out my post about demographic vs. behavioral segmentation and targeting on Drew's Marketing Minute, and while you're there, take some time to read some of Drew's posts. If you don't already read Drew's Marketing Minute, I'm sure you'll become a fan once you read what Drew has to say. I know I did.
