Walmart Black Friday Ad Leaked

It seems like every year the Walmart Black Friday ad is leaked early.  I think most people believe Walmart (NYSE: WMT) leaks it themselves, but perhaps that's not the case based on the legal threats sites like GottaDeal.com (who maintains a Black Friday Sale Ads and News web page) are getting from the all-powerful Walmart telling them not to post Walmart's Black Friday ad early or else.  Walmart%20Black%20Friday%20Ad.jpg

Well, the much-awaited Walmart Black Friday ad has been leaked with big news sites like CNNMoney.com already listing Walmart's Black Friday sales items.  The result?  People are talking and Walmart is getting a lot of early publicity.  While Walmart's stock has recently gone up, the holiday season is a critical time for the company.

Last year, Walmart waited to discount products for the holiday season until a week or so after Black Friday.  As a result, sales fell by 3% according to Tim Worstall Tabloid Edition.  This year, it looks like Walmart and other retailers are starting sales early to get the biggest bank for the buck before 2007 comes to a close.  That's probably a smart move based on the lack of consumer confidence in the market and the projected decrease in holiday spending.

Walmart already got a jump on holiday discounting with the Walmart Secret Sale Website that the company launched earlier this month.  The company is clearly looking to generate an online buzz, and it appears to be working.

What do you think of Walmart's indirect PR campaign this holiday season?
