Pepsi (NYSE: PEP) has a cool new viral marketing campaign going on that I found through a banner ad on Yahoo (NASDAQ: YHOO). You can design a Pepsi or Diet Pepsi can at a special Pepsi Can Studio website. One winner will get $5,000. Not bad.
Pepsi has partnered with Live Earth on the new viral campaign to raise awareness about the environment asking for Pepsi can designs that are environmentally-focused.
The site provides all the tools you need to design a cool can, or you can choose to use your own design tools. You can also see some of the designs other people have submitted in the Can Archive and Featured Cans sections of the site. There are some unique designs up already from participants. Interestingly, most people are choosing to design a Pepsi can rather than a Diet Pepsi can.
I think this is a great viral marketing campaign because it's easy to participate, and it's fun for people with an inner creative flair. Of course, the contest part of the promotion doesn't hurt.
What do you think? Will Pepsi drive an online buzz with this campaign? Will they drive business with this campaign?
