Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) and Publicis Groupe are teaming up in a non-exclusive partnership to develop a new approach to digital advertising. The partnership is expected to bring a technological powerhouse together with a creative powerhouse to redefine digital advertising.![]()
Eric E. Schmidt, Google's CEO, has suggested the outcome could be the beginning of a new open-source advertising. Interestingly, the two companies do not expect to keep the outcome of their partnership proprietary. Instead, Google and Publicis Groupe are focusing on creating something that will not only change digital advertising in the future but also accelerate its growth. The companies expect to benefit from pioneering the effort.
eMarketer has reported that in 2008, online advertising spending is expected to grow by 22% to $49.5 billion. The Google and Publicis Groupe partnership looks to find ways to not only increase that number further but also make that advertising spending more effective in producing positive returns on investments.
Everyone knows that the online world is ripe for the picking in terms of advertising, but no one really knows the best ways to leverage it yet. Looks like the Google and Publicis Groupe partnership could turn online advertising as we know it in a completely new direction. I can't wait to see what they come up with.
Does anyone have any predictions as to what might come out of the Google and Publicis Groupe partnership?

It is a smart move for Google to work closely with a group that is expert in understanding consumers, expert in coming up with creative marketing ideas and expert in coming up with creative concepts (and not a bad move, no doubt, for Publicis either).
