
The first television commercial for the 2008 Presidential Election was unveiled this week. It comes from Republican Presidential candidate John McCain, and according to Advertising Age, it will run in New Mexico in both English and Spanish.
You can see the ad in the YouTube video below. What do you think? I think the commercial certainly communicates some key messages, but does it rely too heavily on a single message related to the past?
I can't help but think this would not be an effective ad against a Democratic candidate like Barack Obama whose message is so clearly routed in the future. What do you think? Might the marketing team behind John McCain need to revamp their messages depending on which Democratic candidate becomes his ultimate competition?







I especially wonder if a dark and stern message like this can be effective against Obama's positive and optimistic view.
But heck, McCain is using the only differentiating factor none of the other candidates will ever have: his particularly exceptional military service. So this might work for him in the long run. Who knows...
