Each year, comScore releases its State of the Internet Report. The 2007 report was just released, and there is a great write up about it on Tech Crunch. One of the most interesting things in the report to me relates to the global use of the internet.
As you'd expect, more people across the globe are using the internet, but the sites they primarily use are a bit different from one country to another. While the United States is dominated by sites like Microsoft, Yahoo! and Google, internet users from other countries, particulary Asian nations, are apt to prefer home-grown sites.
First, take a look at the breakdown of internet users by country below.

I think it's important for companies that market their products and services online to an international audience to take note of the differences among internet users around the world. Our marketing and advertising programs need to change online to work for varying global audiences just as they do offline. I think it can be easy to forget that in the online environment.
