Marketing Cats - Introducing the $22,000 Ashera Designer Cat

What does a filthy rich person do with their extra cash when they already have all the typical things the mega-wealthy need to show off their status?  How about a designer cat?ashera%20hybrid%20cat.jpg

Frankly, I think this is kind of sick, but apparently, the super-rich among us have found that creating hybrid cats is a cool thing to do.  The most recent addition to bizarre cat breeding - the Ashera from Lifestyle Pets.  This little kitty isn't just any tabby.  On the contrary, this cat is meant for the most discerning buyer.  The Ashera is a cross between an African serval and an Asian leopard cat with a dash of domestic cat.  The breeder calls it his "secret recipe", and believe it or not, it's not the first designer cat.  A Bengal (part Asian leopard and part house cat), Savannah (part African serval and part house cat) and Chausie (part jungle cat and part house cat) are already on the exotic pets market.

Hybrid cat breeders claim the demand for these crazy mixes is growing and the more expensive the "pet" the more popular it becomes.  In fact, don't get your hopes up for an Ashera any time soon.  Despite the $22,000 price tage (plus $6,000 if you want the expedited 6-month delivery service and $1,500 for delivery within the United States), the breeder is only whipping up a handful of batches of this "secret blend" to the tune of 50 kitties each year.

Is it just me or is this too weird for words?  If Saturday Night Live was still any good, I'd say this sounds like an SNL skit in the works to me.  That or a Stephen King novel.

I want a product that can do the opposite and stop those things from happening.
