I'm not usually a big fan of gimmicky ads that rely on a photo without the copy to back it up, but I found an ad on AdGoodness today from Pantene Pro-V that proves a picture can be worth a thousand words (with a few well-written words of copy thrown in).
The ad is pictured below and is one of a series of similar ads. All ads in the series include the same layout, background and copy ("Really strong hair") but with a different picture. The one below shows bent scissors and the others depict a bent curling iron and a brush with bent bristles. I think the bent scissors version is by far the best of the three.

Ultimately though, it's the copy ("Really strong hair") that communicates the message. The photo, however, should certainly stop people who are thumbing through a magazine and entice them to look more closely at the ad. Of course, I'm not sure if I'd want my hair to be so strong that it bends scissors, but the message of stronger hair is a good one that the target audience wants to hear. All in all, I think this ad works.
What do you think?

Nice - clean, simple and to the point. 'Nuff said!
