Watching videos online has grown by leaps and bounds over the past few years and it shows no signs of stopping. According to a study of internet users by Burst Media in December 2007, 70% of respondents watch online videos (76.6% of male respondents and 67.7% of female respondents). ![]()
Of course, advertisers want to get some revenue from those videos, so ads preceding online videos are also becoming more and more common.
The problem for advertisers comes from the fact that people don't like ads before online videos. The Burst Media study found that over half of internet users surveyed stopped watching online videos if they were preceded by a commercial.
On the flip side, 43.2% of internet users who responded to the Burst Media study said they continued to watch online videos despite being preceded by an ad.
From the advertisers' perspectives, it looks like all hope is not lost for online video ads. What do you think from a marketer's perspective about online video ads? Now, take off your marketer's hat and what do you think about online video ads from a consumer's perspective?
