BusinessWeek published its annual list of the 50 most innovative companies last week, and the list actually includes few surprises despite the economic downturn in the United States. The list is made up of many of the big name companies you'd expect with a few interesting names sprinkled in for good measure.![]()
Apple ranked on top with Google second. No surprises there. I did find the regional breakdown of the top 50 most innovative companies interesting. Following is the breakdown by the headquarters country of each company:
- United States = 31
- Britain = 4
- Canada = 1
- Finland = 1
- Germany = 4
- India = 2
- Japan = 4
- Netherlands = 1
- Singapore = 1
- South Korea = 1
Since marketing plays such an important role in a company's innovation strategies, I think this list gives great insight into companies that have strong marketing teams who are allowed to create effective marketing programs.
Following is a list of the top 10 most innovative companies:
- Apple
- Toyota Motor
- General Electric
- Microsoft
- Tata Group
- Nintendo
- Procter & Gamble
- Sony
- Nokia
