
In 2007, online ad spending in the U.K. increased 38% to $5.8 billion according to the IAB UK with PricewaterhouseCoopers and the World Advertising Research Center. That figure brings online ad spending to 15.3% of total ad spending in the U.K. in 2007.![]()
Breaking that $5.8 billion down, 57.6% of it goes to paid search advertising ($3.2 billion in 2007, up 39% from the prior year). Internet display advertising grew by 31% in 2007 and online classified advertising grew by 54%.
IAB UK predicts that online ad spending in the U.K. will surpass television ad spending by 2009 when it will become the biggest medium in the U.K. eMarketer predicts that online advertising spending will grow to $8.7 billion in the U.K. by 2012.
Those are some amazing statistics. It's incredible to think how quickly the internet has grown into such a powerful tool for marketers, and we're only just beginning to understand the best ways to leverage it for advertising and social media marketing. The next decade should be fun!
