I found a great article on AllBusiness.com today by Scarlet Pruitt called "Email Hosting: In-House Servers vs. Third-Party Providers", which provides a great overview of both hosting options. Scarlet defines each option then provides pros and cons for both.![]()
For example, she discusses security concerns, server outages, flexibility and more. Any way you slice it, email marketing is a big investment and an important part of business these days. Don't make the choices related to your email campaigns without doing adequate research to ensure your making appropriate decisions to meet your short and long term business goals.
The email marketing campaigns I've worked on in my marketing career have always been with large corporations, so there wasn't a question about hosting - it was done in-house. However, email hosting can be a huge expense for small and medium-size businesses, and the decision of how to get it done is a big one.
Do you use a third-party host for your email or do you use internal servers? What do you think about each option?
