The latest merger announcement tell us that CNET will become part of CBS. According to a CBS press release, here's what the CBS acquisition of CNET means: CBS will become one of the top 10 internet companies in the U.S. with approximately 200 million monthly unique users around the world. CNET Networks' CNET, ZDNet, GameSpot.com, TV.com, CNET News, UrbanBaby, BNET, CHOW, Search.com and otherw will be combined with CBS Corporation's National and Local Interactive Businesses. This is big for CBS.![]()
CNET is a strong brand with an even stronger online presence. CBS is a strong entertainment brand. The combination of CNET and CBS should present a huge amount of opportunities for both companies. Even better, there is little overlap in core businesses between the two companies. CBS' interactive arm includes the following: CBS.com, CBSSports.com, CBSCollegeSports.com, MaxPreps.com, CBSNews.com, last.fm, Wallstrip, MobLogic, CBS Radio and CBS Television Stations digital media platforms, and the CBS Audience Network, which is made up of more than 300 partner Web sites.
What do you think about this merger? Good or bad for CNET? Good or bad for consumers?
