Office Depot and Google have teamed up to capture some business from small business owners. The plan? Provide Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) tools through the Office Depot (NYSE: ODP) Small Business Resource Center website. Here's how it works according to Brandweek.com:![]()
"The co-branded site, accessible from Officedepot.com, offers portals for Google AdWords, Google Apps and Google Local Business Center. As part of the affiliation, Office Depot customers making a purchase at Google AdWords are offered $50-worth of free advertising. Users are invited to list their business at the Google Local Business Center, and Google Apps including Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Docs."
Office Depot seems to think offering Google tools through its website will help small business owners expand their businesses during difficult economic times. Funny. I think Google tools wouldn't make the top of my list of suggestions for small business owners to market and expand their businesses at any time let alone during difficult economic times. I'm not saying Google doesn't offer some great tools. They do. I'm just not falling for the bait.
What do you think?
