Coming from a background in Corporate America, I've had to deal with my fair share of acronyms. I'm not adverse to acronyms, but I do think people have a tendency to take them a bit too far, particularly in marketing. It seems like just about everything has to have an acronym these days. I'm not sure if marketers think consumers are too lazy to say a complete name or phrase or if they just think acronyms are cool.
Of course, I can't be a complete hypocrite. I do use acronyms, but I try not to use a vomitous amount of them. That's a lesson that the marketing team behind CA World '08 (an information technology conference being held in Las Vegas in November) has yet to learn. As evidence, I present to you the acronym being used to promote CA World '08.
Actually, I really hope this is meant to be a joke. If that's the case, then it's quite funny. However, if it's meant to be serious, then it's time to call in a new marketing team.
What do you think? Serious or a joke?
